Student AirRace 2025: Innovation Meets Team Spirit – Our Debut Event!

Königsdorf: The first Student AirRace edition was a resounding success! From October 14th to 16th, the airfield in Königsdorf transformed into a vibrant testing ground for the next generation of European drone engineers. The event proved that the future of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is not only technically demanding but also incredibly exciting and collaborative.

A Unique Competition: More Than Just Speed

Around 30 dedicated students in teams from universities in Munich, Bucharest, and Barcelona answered our call. Our goal from the start was to shift the focus away from pure racing speed. Instead, the challenge centered on holistic engineering performance:

  • Innovation: How sustainable is the concept of the self-developed drone?

  • Sustainability: Which environmental aspects were taken into account?

  • Safety: How robust and reliable are the safety concepts?

These rigorous AirRace criteria challenged the teams to optimize their UAVs for maximum technological maturity and operational safety— an essential educational preparation for the complex demands of the real-world industry.

Networking, Fun, and the EUROAVIA Spirit

However, the true highlight of the Student AirRace was the intense exchange and connectivity. Our focus was firmly on the participants:

  • Intercultural Exchange: Participants were able to share knowledge and forge valuable cross-border connections, a core component of the European aerospace community. The strong EUROAVIA Network provided the perfect platform for this exchange.

  • Bridge to Industry: In addition to connecting with peers, the teams seized the opportunity to network directly with our partner companies. These conversations on the sidelines of the race provided important insights and career perspectives.

  • Constructive Collaboration: Shared dinners and social evenings created an open and relaxed atmosphere of constructive collaboration. Whether over dinner or while discussing technical details late at night, knowledge was shared and friendships were made.

The organizers at EUROAVIA Munich concluded that the format was popular with the students and proved to be an effective method for fostering technological expertise.

Looking Ahead: The Student AirRace is Going Annual!

The successful debut in Königsdorf was only the beginning. The Student AirRace organizer team has established that there will be an annual event series. We are already working intensively on the concepts for next year’s iteration to continue this important momentum for European technology and talent development.

Stay tuned and get ready: We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
